The first thing I noticed was the distinctive crackling sound as the blade went over my bristles.
Sorry to be an enviro-bore, but it saves water because I no longer have to shave in the shower. (If I'm using disposable razors, I have to get my skin very wet first). So that's gotta be a substantial savings; five minutes per day of running hot water.
Interestingly, it was on the *second* use of the same blade that I got the closer shave.
There are three different packs of blades. It looks like they offer differing degrees of sharpness.
My goodness, though, it brought me right back to 1975 when I first borrowed my father's razor, thinking that somehow using it would miraculously turn me into a man.

This product is a tricky one, but for good reasons. When I bought it I was really excited based on all of the other reviews that have been posted. When I got the product needless to say I was disapointed. But it was because I had to relearn the art of shaving. A week later I could not be happier. It really does the trick and it really does not give me the irritation I am used to.
After reading many reviews I decided to try the Weishi razor for my foray into wet shaving. Unfortunately, I have a fairly thick, coarse beard and the Weishi was not up to the task. After trying it two times (with terrible results) I determined that it was simply not going to get the job done.
As an alternative, I bought a Merkur 38C razor (which is considerably more expensive) and immediately noticed the difference. I have been using the Merkur with a blade sampler from Barberia Italiana and could not be happier. The moral of this story is that one razor does not fit all beards.

This product is an excellent and inexpensive way to get started on having a better shave with a double edge razor. The razor itself is a high quality and well manufactured product. The variety of sample blades that come with the product are an excellent way to experiment and find what works best for you. If you have never used a double edge traditional razor I hightly encourage you to try one out. I find that I have a much closer and better quality shave using this razor. I also recommend looking into companion bistle brushes and soaps to get the best shave possible at far less the cost than current mass manufacturers are charging for their triple or quad blade over the counter razors. Although in appearance this is a copy of the classic Gillette design of old, it is not constructed very well. The manufacturing tolerances are very sloppy.
The head assembly is misaligned (diagonal corners appear to be out-of-plane) and the butterfly pieces do not meet properly. As a result, the razor blade warps yielding an inconsistent gap between the blade and the safety bar. Also the gap on one side of the razor is larger than the gap on the other side. Not only are these faults dangerous for a beginner like me, they also yield a relatively poor shave.
Had I only seen a picture of the product box, I would have known that the company does not pay attention to details. 'Needlessly load and unload shaver.' 'Inimitable rotating handle.'
Oh hindsight! After receiving my Merkur 34C, with its fine craftsmanship and excellent shave, I realized I should have spent the extra $15 for a quality razor.
This razor is an excellent low cost choice for anyone interested in giving wet shaving a chance. I've been using this razor for several shaves now and I'm very pleased. It may not end up being my long time wet shave razor, but it's a cost effective and safe way to learn the lost art of the wet shave. Only thing to keep in mind if you tighten the handle down too much, the blade becomes slightly bent and doesn't provide a real close shave. Just something for the newbies like me. Once I figured that out, my second shave was extremely close and with much less irritation than the new multiple razor cartridges.
20 years ago when I started to shave I used double edge blades. In the 90's, I started to stress shave using cartridge razors. I never really liked those cartridge razors. A shave from a Gilette Fusion or Wilkinson Xtreme was never as close as I wanted it to be. Blades were expensive and not durable. Shaving was not fun anymore.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to go back to good old DE. I bought Weishi razor, some Feather blades and Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream and got pleasently surprised. Shaving with this Weishi razor was ure joy. The razor is not overly agressive but with ultra sharp Feather blades I could achieve very close shave, much closer than with any cartridge blades I've ever tested. This is a highly recommended product.
For those who started shaving way back when with a Gillette (or other brands) double-edge razor, this razor will bring you back to those days with joy and nostalgia. It's just like the old Gillette that was produced from 1940 - 1970. Or, if you have never shaved with one of these razors and enjoy tradition and basics, this might be a razor for you to check out.
I have been duped over the years by the advertisements and so-called advanced technology of razor companies so eager to attract users each year with a new and more powerful-sounding version of their preceding razor. And then there is the race for the number of blades on a shaving head that promise to give one an even better shave!
What a relief to find that the traditional double-blade razor and blades are still around. I get an even better shave with this razor than I did with the modern contraptions. I might be classified as a shaving geek, but this system has restored to me the pleasure of the daily shaving routine. I also recommend getting a mug, brush, and shaving soap to complete the traditional experience.
I have been using this razor for about two months now. I find it not to give me as close a shave as my old gillette adjustable did. It is a less expensive alternative to mulit blade razors which are a real rip off, never did like them. A good beginners razor, no self sacrafice here.
