Polar RS200sd Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black)

Product Description

The RS200sd was made for competitive, goal oriented runners who want to enhance their running experience. With the S1 foot pod the RS200sd provides accurate speed and distance data like the S625X so you can combine pace with heart rate data. Use the Event Countdown Timer to manage your training leading up to your next running event. You can even upload your settings to your running computer and then download your workout files to the polar Running Coach Web Service for analysis. WearLink fabric transmitter included.

Very useful for a runner. The foot pod is not that acurrate, but it's really cool. Disvantage is that use lot of batteries.

Customer Buzz
I've owned the RS200sd for over a year now. I've had to replace the battery in both the watch and heart rate monitor once and the foot pod twice. Outstanding product.

Only complaint is in the transmittal method from the watch to the computer. A USB port would not only be more convenient, but would probably work better as well. Newer batteries in the watch allow the transfer of data with fewer errors.

For the price, you cannot beat the quality.

I'm in training for the NY Marathon and have been using the Polar RS200sd with footpod and heart monitor for 10 weeks. I made the right choice and I'm extremely happy with the watch. Here are the reasons why:
- Slimline and not bulky like other watches. I wear this for work and it looks just fine!
- Long life battery. Some of the other watches require constant charging.
- Many useful functions. I've only used maybe 40% of the features so far. Most useful to me is 'heart rate zones' and distance/pace measurments.
- Logical and easy to use button layout.
- Heart rate monitor and strap fits well and performs without problem.
- Foot-pod. I'm in marathon training and have not noticed any problems on short or long runs. Good battery life. I've heard some other reviewers say it's not accurate but I've not noticed this. However, I'm not concerned about 100% accuracy! It's possible to calibrate the foot-pod but I've never needed to do it.
- Possible to configure watch screens to display data that you need. e.g. I set up my main screen to display distance and also my pace (my marathon pace is 9 minutes per mile!).
- A nice extra feature is the abilty to change the data screens by briefly pressing the watch against the heart rate strap. I've configured mine to activate the backlight. Useful when running at night!
- I've also configured my watch to automatically take a lap-time at each mile.
- All data can be sent to the webpage tool. The data is sent to the web sonically by placing the watch next to your computer microphone and clicking 'Send' on the watch. The watch beeps for 10 seconds as it automatically sends the data to the webpage. You can then go online and spend hours looking at varous graphs! Very Nice.
- The wrist-strap: at first use it seems a pain to use but now I use it one way when I'm working and another way when I'm running (I use the extra strap for a more secure fit).
- Many other functions that I have not used yet!
- This watch does not have GPS, but at the time of writing this review, all the GPS watches are too bulky and have a very short battery life.

I have been using the RS200sd for over 2 months now.
Pluses:
-well constructed, watch is extremely light weight and comfortable to wear. The strap's materials and design allow good seating on my wrist without being tight. You can wear it day to day as your regular watch.
-Watch software works very well with no glitches
-Night light a nice plus
Things to note/minuses:
-Strap was a little tight on my chest. Polar sells different sizes, so you don't have to be stuck with the standard HM strap. Folks with round barrel chest may need to play around because the strap will tend to move downwards. However, once you get all nice and sweaty, the band material will help hold it to your chest.
-The foot pod needs calibration. Best is to run 1200-1600m on a running track. Also, if you change between two or more different kinds of running shoes, it makes a big difference to write down calibration factors for each. On my Mizuno it is more accurate but on my Pearl Izumis it overestimates speed and distance. The foot pod tends to flop a bit more on my P.I.'s because of the lace design. So the footpod position has a big effect on accuracy. On last week's 5k race, wearing my Peal Izumis, the 5k distance was 5.8k on my Polar watch!!!

All in all, a nice product.

I bought the rs200sd to assist in my training efforts for the NYC Marathon. It certainly has a lot more interesting and useful features than the other timing equipment I have used in the past. I have to say that it definitely helped with my training.

Being able to switch the screen back and forth from elapsed time to heart rate, etc. and being able to easily record lap times is a plus. I used several features while training and running the marathon. The display is big enough that I could read it without difficulty even while running.

Other reviewers mentioned difficulties with synching the heart rate monitor watch with their computers; I too experienced this and admit that I gave up even trying.

Most annoying to me was that after many attempts, the footpod would not calibrate accurately (including track calibration efforts, hill and flats calibration efforts, etc.) Although there was a lack of precision in footpod calibration, in a "zen" kind of way, I could look at my pace while running and get a feel for my approximate speed and distance. However, in terms of accuracy, my rs200sd recorded that I ran 27.36 miles for the NYC Marathon!

I realize that some people have reported they had little difficulty with footpod calibration. It is possible that some of us have very inconsistent strides which may make it challenging for the footpod to calibrate. Thus, perhaps a GPS-based unit would work better. One last issue with the footpod: after 26.2 miles (or was it 27.36 miles?), it really became a nuisance on my foot. I felt it each step for the last several miles, something that I had not noticed on previous, shorter runs.

Customer Buzz
Very good product, easy for use e very accurate, the footpod works precisely and it is very comfortable for use. Watch has user frindely menus and it is easier to handle than older models.

Polar RS200sd hass the best cost-benefits relation for runners who want to improve their training and running quality. The distance measurement mechanism is very acurate (altough it requires more than one calibration adjustement) and is very simple to operate and transfer data to the computer.

Own it.

Have used it since March 2007. Watch does basicly what it is suppose to do. Good features to price. BUT the online software is a JOKE. When it works it is basic at best, but trying to get the soniclink to actually upload your data from the watch is a real hit-n-miss proposition. It usually takes me about 4-8 tries to get the uplink software to let me get the exercise uploaded. It will take it and then give me an "errors in connection" message. Or just quite at the start with the same message. Then some times it just does not recognize the watch at all. There is an indicator that tells me it can "hear" the watch, but the software will not respond.

Try to contact customer support and they have consistantly blamed my end claiming "there is no problems on their end". What it seems to be is a crowded server, but they will not tell you this.

I work to hard to get the data in the watch to have to fight it to get to be able to analyze it. Also, if you are serious about your HR, get a different watch as this one does not take your rate in real time samples, only in averages ... so you cannot graph your HR in a minute by minute fashion. And it will not work with other software that does becasue it does not record the HR in a useable manner that other software programs can read.

For my money, I would look elsewhere .... If you are still interested, I got one for sale.
