If you are looking to get adjustable dumbbells, these are the ones to buy. They are solid and will last a long, long time. I would buy these over the bowflex or any other adjustable dumbbells. I have the set that goes up to 90lbs. and they are great and only take up a little space. I would recommend going to a place that sells these and take a look before your buy. I was looking to have a store close by that sells these and I was skeptical at first but when I played around with these dumbbells, I found out just how "solid" these things are. You can get a total body workout with just these and a good weight bench. Some things you just need to try out before you purchase and I tried these out and was very impressed. Great design and great product. It was funny because after I went to the fitness store to look at these, I went to the local bookstore and was skimming through the latest Sports Illustrated magazine and there was an article about Lance Armstrong's comeback and several photos of him working out. One of the photos shows Lance using these PowerBlock dumbbells. After that I was sold! It must of been a sign. Ha! Well good luck and I think you will really like these and may be the last dumbbells you ever buy. Good luck!

I started the P90X workout a few weeks ago and began using the rubber resistance bands. However, when I switched to this set of weights the workout became much more challenging. I highly recommend these over the bands if possible. Changing weights is a snap so you can easily keep up with the video. The product feels solid and high quality. Yes, there is a price premium for the Powerblocks but they are much quicker than changing plate weights and they take up much less room than a set of dumbbells. Highly recommended.

No offense to Amazon, but due to shipping costs, try to buy them locally if you can. I paid $269 + tax for the Sport 5.0 set which covers 5-50 pounds in 5 pound increments. Unless you are a bodybuilder, this weight will cover all the exercises in P90X. And the Sport series can be upgraded to 65 pounds if you really must have it.

These are great i bought the 5 to 45 pound set and recently have sold those and bought the 5 to 90. I might suggest getting a set you can add onto it will save you money in the long run. I have also in the past owned the Boxflex dumbbells those went to 52 pounds I did not like how long they were. The only problem I have had with the powerblock dumbbells is doing wrist curls the 2 bars on the top prevent some movement there. Otherwise these are great and not too outrageous on pricing.

I am giving the product a 3. I'm disappointed in them. They are bulky, which is probably typical for this type of weight. The pins snag on my shorts when doing curls next to my body. You can not hold them with two hands so I can't do one of my favorite lifts with them (over the head drop weights to back of neck and up). I put them on a cushioned chair instead of buying the stand and it is hard to change the weights on anything even a little soft. You can't move a weight from the left hand to right hand without sitting it down first. Just little things that I didn't think of. They are nonreturnable.

I have been using the powerblock system for 12 years.......I'm a 63 year Old Special Forces Vietnam Vet.......I also hold a personal training certification from ACE........I have been trainng and body building for over 40 years.........And I can tell you that the powerblock system
is the finest dumbell system i have ever used......I use mine 3-4 times a week...I get a excellent workout, that helps me stay very fit.........And i must tell you i like the feel of the product as well as the sturdiness....of the blocks...of course you have to be careful as you would with any heavy weight set... just use common sense and keep training....I would not use another brand
and I reccomend them highly

I bought the PowerBlock because I did not want to have a bunch of dumbells sitting around my house. I could not be more pleased. The PowerBlocks look unusual but I did not notice any difference between the PowerBlock or a set of regular dumbells. The adjustable pins slow you down a little bit if you're doing some circuit training but that is the only gripe that I have. Overall, an excellent product at a cheaper price than the competition.

Powerblock Personal / Plus

Pros:
Solid, well constructed, quick weight change design.
Selector pin never loosens or requires mid work out tightening like other adjustables.
Although plates shift slightly when in motion I've never worried about the system failing.
10 Year warranty, made in the USA.
Truly portable with no need for a cradle or stand.
Despite other users complaints the Personal Plus handle upgrade works fine for me. The welded plates are so thin you would have to have monster hands for this to be an issue.
If you've ever looked at these on auctions sites or classifieds, they really hold their value.

Cons:
Plates do make a clanging noise when in motion.
Changing plates when you are really fatigued can be a challenge if you don't get the selector pin exactly straight.
Don't expect a fancy work out DVD or exercise chart, you just get a black and white instruction manual. I suggest the laminated posters.
Putting your hand into a rectangular box does take some getting used to.

These powerblocks work as advertised. I preferred the bowflex adjustable dumbells due to the way their adjustment mechanisms work, but they were considerably more expensive and require the use of a base. These powerblocks work well overal and seem to be very well constructed. The magnetic pin mechanism works well, although sometimes it seems awkward inserting them, especially when the insert location is near the bottom of the blocks. Once the pins are inserted, the blocks are very reliable and stable. I've never experienced dropped or partially connected weights, which is something that can occur on the similarly priced weider adjustable dumbells.

Customer Buzz
We bought these because my partner and I have very different strength levels and needs. We have individual weights all around the house and it was getting crazy. Now we just have the powerblocks and they work well for this purpose. They are a bit unwieldy to change the weight on (the Bowflex ones seemed better on this) and the square shape takes some getting used to, but in general we are highly satisfied with the purchase. We didn't get the stand, but we would highly recommend it.

I researched ways to have some home workout equipment that would be small enough to fit in my studio apartment while also providing the maximum benefit for the price.

These fit the bill perfectly. Adjusting the weight amount is seriously a 5 second process. It could not be easier.

I've heard good things about the Ironmaster dumbbells, but those are much more expensive than the Blocks. I highly recommend getting the stand for these, as it makes them more usable.
